Local Recreation

The Reno-Lake Tahoe area is consistently ranked the number one destination for outdoor activities in the nation. Renowned for its natural beauty, the region presents year-round recreation with 18 ski resorts, 39 golf courses, and several opportunities for nearby hiking, biking, boating, camping, fishing and rock climbing. Just minutes from north shore of Lake Tahoe, Verdi-Mogul residents can enjoy the many entertainment options including skiing and snowboarding, casinos and several seasonal events. As the largest freshwater lake in the U.S., Lake Tahoe is known for its clear waters, panoramic views, number of ski resorts and year round recreation. Water sports are also popular in Tahoe, as summertime boaters can dock to lakeside eateries, or take in the seasonal events of a fireworks show or sailboat race. Additionally, in Somersett, the Canyon Nine and The Club at Town Center are exclusive to residents and included in residents' monthly owners association dues. A community Trail System that includes more than 27 miles of natural and paved trails that amble through the community's open space, as well as two public parks and six pocket parks are planned.

Activities & Events

The region offers plenty to do for the active populace such as opera, philharmonic, theater and ballet companies. Events in Reno include the Aftown Summer Arts Festival, Hot August Nights, The National Championship Air Races, and the Reno-Tahoe Open. Community events are held year-round for Somersett residents and nearby neighbors. Summertime boasts the Annual Farmers Market with fresh produce and free entertainment, The Charity Golf Tournament for the Reno Firefighters Community Assistance Program is held in July, and the Annual Sierra Challenge Bicycle Ride to Defeat ALS in August. September features the Annual SPCA Happy Tails Dog Walk, while autumn welcomes the Community Garage Sale, the Annual Touch-a-Truck and Fall Festival, as well as the Annual Sip-N-Shop in November.

Education

Area students are served by the Washoe County School District, some of which on a multi-track year-round schedule. Nearby higher education is provided by Morrison University, Sierra Nevada College, Truckee Meadows Community College and the University of Nevada at Reno, to name a few. U.S. News and World Report ranks the University of Nevada-Reno as one of America's best colleges, included among stellar universities as Stanford, Harvard and UCLA.

Local Economy

Reno boasts a strong local economy, as the per capita income is in the top 5% of the nation. The city also ranks ninth in its class as of the country's most livable cities by Money Magazine. With the cost of living considerably lower, Nevadans paycheck goes further than their contemporaries across the country. Further, Nevadans pay no personal, corporate, unitary or inventory taxes. Home to notable technology companies including Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco Systems, Intuit and Amazon, Reno remains a hub for employment in technology and information companies.
